Statue of Liberty (New York) – Quick Tips On How to Avoid Lines and Frustrations

We’ve been to New York a couple of times , but we were not able to get tickets to the Statue of Liberty. With some advance planning, on our 5th visit we were finally able to get the whole experience. I hope this will be helpful for anyone that wants to go to the Statue of Liberty. She is breath taking and so beautiful.

Buy tickets in advance. There are 3 options. Here is the link:

-Access to the Statue of Liberty Crown
-Ferry access to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island
-Book 3-6 months in advance
-377 steps from the bottom up
-The stairway from the pedestal to the crown is very tight. If you are very tall, you may have a difficult time
Option 2
-Access to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty (no crown access)
-Ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island
-Book 2-4 months in advance
Option 3
-No access to the pedestal or or crown
-Ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island
-Book 4-8 weeks in advance

Tickets usually are sold out, if you do not get them in advance. Sometimes on
For all 3 options, prepare to spend at least 4-5 hours. Remember to bring snacks , water and quarters for the lockers.
Eat breakfast upon arrival, otherwise you will have to eat street food. There will be two security screens like at the airport.
For national park passport stamp collectors, there are 3 stamps; one before getting on
the ferry and two on Liberty Island.
Spend some time at the museum on Liberty Island before going back on the ferry.
Ellis Island is another part of the ticket, which will take another 2 to 3 hours (depending
how long you stay ).
Pre-recorded audio tours are available for an additional charge.
It does not matter what time your tour is scheduled. Arrive as early as 9am to pick up your ticket at the Will Call booth. Once you have your tickets, you can get on the ferry anytime.
If you still have the energy in you, check out the Oculus by the 911 memorial. The architecture is beautiful and a great place to shop or relax and sit outside on a beautiful day.
